WASHINGTON, July 23 (Reuters) - A powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the northern part of Japan's main Honshu island on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. It said the quake, at a depth of 66.5 miles (107 km), was centered 40 miles (64 km) east of Morioka, in northern Honshu.(Reporting by Sandra Maler)
