WASHINGTON, April 23 (Reuters) - A body recovered by U.S. authorities in Iraq has been identified as that of a kidnapped American security contractor, the FBI said on Wednesday.

The remains were identified as Jonathon Cote of Getzville, New York, who was employed by Crescent Security Group when he was kidnapped on Nov. 16, 2006, the FBI said.

"Mr. Cote's body was recovered on April 19, 2008, and his family was immediately informed by the FBI of the recovery," FBI spokesman Richard Kolko said in a statement.

"Mr. Cote's family was notified today of the positive identification of his remains following confirmation of his identity by the FBI."

The FBI has previously identified the remains of five other security contractors kidnapped in Iraq.

They were identified as Americans Ronald Withrow of JPI Worldwide; John Roy Young, Paul Christopher Johnson-Reuben and Joshua Mark Munns of Crescent Security Group; and Austrian Burt Nussbaumer. (Writing by JoAnne Allen; Editing by John O'Callaghan)
