LA PAZ, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Bolivian police found the body of a Canadian tourist who disappeared a month ago cycling down the infamous "Death Road," a steep, winding highway in the mountains near La Paz, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The body of Simon Boily, 23, who was reported missing in mid-February, was found down a 490-feet (150 meter) cliff off the road that links Bolivia's administrative capital La Paz with the Yungas Valley, La Prensa reported.

Despite the risks, every year thousands of thrill-seeking tourists cycle down the dirt road, world-famous for the breathtaking views of snow-topped mountains and verdant valleys.

Car and bus accidents used to kill dozens of people on the highway every year until an alternative route was opened in late 2006.

A police officer told La Prensa that Boily's body was decomposing but his passport and return ticket to Canada were in a bag next to his remains.

Although authorities believe Boily's death was accidental, a special investigation unit was ordered to search for clues on whether he was the victim of a crime.
