SANTIAGO, Feb 27 (Reuters) - An 8-year-old boy who collapsed after a speech by Chilean President Michelle Bachelet could not have picked a better leader to have nearby: a former pediatrician and mother of three.

Bachelet had just finished her address at a school in the capital of Santiago when Ignacio Briones collapsed 3 feet (1 meter) from where she stood.

She rushed to his side and examined him before he was moved elsewhere for treatment.

"The boy is very well, he's eating cookies and drinking juice," Bachelet said. "His head does not hurt, he has a scratch on the elbow because he fell, but he's in good shape."

There was no medical information on why the child collapsed, but the boy said later it was from the summer heat.
