WASHINGTON, May 30 (Reuters) - A man infected with a dangerous strain of tuberculosis who was forcibly isolated after traveling across much of Europe is not likely to have been highly infectious, U.S. health experts said on Wednesday.

About 70 to 80 people who sat close to the patient on two long flights are being contacted because of a slight chance they had the prolonged exposure needed to become infected, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

But the patient has no symptoms and has apparently not infected his wife or other family members, CDC officials told a news conference. He has a difficult-to-treat form of TB called extensive drug resistance TB or XDR TB.
