BAGHDAD, March 3 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomb killed a policeman and caused other casualties when it blew up at a police checkpoint in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi on Saturday, sources said.

A police source said a policeman was killed and 22 other police and civilians were wounded.

A medical source at Ramadi hospital said 11 civilians were killed in addition to the policeman, who was taken to a military hospital.

Another 22 people were wounded, the medical source said.

Ramadi is the capital of Anbar province where U.S. and Iraqi forces are battling an insurgency by al Qaeda and other Sunni Arab militant groups. In recent weeks insurgents have targeted areas where tribal leaders have spoken out against al Qaeda.
