BEIJING, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Strong winds blew at least 10 cars of a train off the tracks in China's far western region of Xinjiang on Wednesday, killing three passengers, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Two passengers were seriously hurt and another 32 lightly injured, the report added.

The train had just left Turpan station, which lies about 200 kilometres (125 miles) southeast of regional capital Urumqi, it said.

The accident happened in a mountainous region known for its extreme weather conditions, Xinhua added.
