BEIJING, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Forty-five passengers smashed windows to escape a blaze that engulfed a trolley-bus in the ancient city of Xi'an, state media said on Wednesday.

Most suffered sprains and bruises but three were seriously injured in the fire in the city, famous for Terracotta Warriors discovered nearby, Xinhua news agency said.

The full bus caught fire in the morning rush hour close to the downtown railway station in the walled capital of the northwestern province of Shaanxi.

A fire in the gearbox was believed responsible.
