SEOUL, Aug 8 (Reuters) - The following is a summary of major South Korean newspapers on Wednesday, prepared by Reuters in Seoul. Reuters has not checked the stories and does not guarantee their accuracy.

CHOSUN ILBO

- South Korean Trade Minister Kim Hyun-chong is likely to be appointed as U.N. ambassador while the chief negotiator in the U.S. free trade talks, Kim Jong-hoon, is likely to take the minister post.

KOREA ECONOMIC DAILY

- Registrations of imported vehicles in South Korea totalled 29,855 units for the first seven months of this year, accounting for 4.97 percent of all registrations, industry sources said, up from 4.15 percent in 2006.

MAEIL BUSINESS NEWSPAPER

- A spokesman for the Taliban in Afghanistan said they have not received all $1,200 worth of medical supplies from South Korea for the South Korean hostages because the Ghazni provincial government seized some of them.
