SEOUL, Dec 21 (Reuters) - The following is a summary of major South Korean newspapers on Thursday, prepared by Reuters in Seoul. Reuters has not checked the stories and does not guarantee their accuracy.

CHOSUN ILBO

- South Korea plans to build a missile defence system to shoot down short-and medium-range missiles if they are launched by North Korea, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

JOONGANG ILBO

- Out of the $24 million North Korea holds in Banco Delta Asia, $12 million came from Hyundai Asan for the businesses it runs in North Korea, according to Macau sources.

KOREA ECONOMIC DAILY

- Woori Bank agreed to make all of its 3,100 contract workers to full-time regular employees.

- The 100,000 won-note and 50,000-won note will be issued around 2008, a finance ministry official said.

KOREA TIMES

- Health officials said South Korean snack and fast food makers are considering reducing or even eliminating the use of trans fats, known as a major cause of heart disease, by the end of 2008, Yonhap reported.

- An "E-passport" coming out next year will carry a memory chip that contains personal information such as photos, fingerprints and iris patterns, the government said.

- South Korea was No. 1 in the global shipbuilding industry in terms of new orders, order backlogs and the volume of vessels built in the January-November period, according to London-based market researcher Clarkson Plc. said, Yonhap reported.
