SEOUL, Jan 24 (Reuters) - The following is a summary of major South Korean newspapers on Wednesday, prepared by Reuters in Seoul. Reuters has not checked the stories and does not guarantee their accuracy.

CHOSUN ILBO

- A team of South Korean scientists has grown pancreatic beta cells, which can help treat diabetes, out of stem cells from umbilical cord blood.

- The Seoul metropolitan government said it will create about 130,000 new jobs this year, investing 8.7 trillion won ($9.26 billion), compared to the 23,000 jobs created last year.

- Users of Microsoft's <MSFT.O> Windows Vista cannot conduct online transactions at several South Korean banks until mid-February because the upgraded operating system conflicts with some banking services systems.

KOREA ECONOMIC DAILY

- Hynix Semiconductor <000660.KS> will build its new assembly lines in Chongju in North Chungchong province, instead of Ichon, just southeast of Seoul, Finance Minister Kwon O-kyu said.

- Doosan Heavy <034020.KS> bought a $170 million coal plant in Thailand.

KOREA TIMES

- South Korean scientists who first cloned a dog have cloned another breed of dog, the poodle.
