KABUL, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Afghan president Hamid Karzai was leading his main challenger, Abdullah Abdullah, by 46.3 pct to 31.4 pct with votes from around a third of all polling stations counted, officials said on Friday.

Karzai needs to win more than 50 percent to avoid a second round run-off.
