KABUL, Nov 12 (Reuters) - An explosion shook southern Afghanistan's Kandahar city on Wednesday but it was not immediately clear what caused it and if there were any casualties, residents said.

Violence has escalated sharply this year in Afghanistan, where the resurgent Taliban have stepped up their attacks against government and foreign forces. (Reporting by Sayed Salahuddin; Editing by Paul Tait)
