SINGAPORE, July 17 (Reuters) - The Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal carried the following stories in their Asia print and/or Web site editions on Tuesday. Reuters has not verified these stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.

FINANCIAL TIMES (www.ft.com)

-- Britain expelled four Russian diplomats on Monday in protest at Moscow's failure to extradite to London Andrei Lugovoi, an ex-KGB officer and the main suspect in the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB agent.

-- Germany has proposed creating "golden shares" in EADS <EAD.PA> to give the French and German governments a veto over strategic decisions by Europe's biggest aerospace and defence company, German officials said on Monday.

-- Barclays <BARC.L> plans to sweeten its offer for ABN Amro <AAH.AS> with more cash after the rival RBS-led consortium on Monday revised its offer for the Dutch bank.

WALL STREET JOURNAL (www.wsj.com)

-- China won't release controversial estimates of the economic cost of pollution, setting back efforts to quantify the toll of its breakneck growth.

-- Chinese statistics due this week are likely to show that the country is on track to leapfrog Germany as the third biggest national economy this year, sooner than expected -- yet another sign of just how quickly the global balance of power is shifting.
