SINGAPORE, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.7 quake struck the Solomon Islands to the northeast of Australia on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site.

The USGS, monitored in Singapore, said the quake's epicenter was about 2 km (about one mile) under the sea and occurred 75 km (45 miles) west-south-west of Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands. (Writing by David Fogarty, editing by Sanjeev Miglani; Singapore World Desk +65 6870 3274)
