MANILA, Aug 20 (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the southeastern Philippines on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of damage, officials in the Philippines said.

The USGS said the quake was offshore and very shallow at 6.3 miles (10 km) deep and was centered 140 miles (226 km) east-southeast of Davao City on the island of Mindanao.

Residents in Davao said they felt mild tremors but there was no panic. Civil defence officials said there had been no immediate reports of damage.
