(Adds details) TAIPEI, Jan 16 (Reuters) - A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan on Tuesday, but there were no immediate reports of damage. The epicentre of the quake, which struck at 11:10 a.m. local time (0310 GMT), was under the ocean at a depth of 16.9 km about 85.1 km (53 miles) east of Hualien county on the east coast, the Central Weather Bureau said in a statement. The quake was felt in the capital of Taipei. Earthquakes occur frequently in Taiwan, which lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin. One of Taiwan's worst-recorded quakes occurred in September 1999. Measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, it killed more than 2,400 people and destroyed or damaged 50,000 buildings.
