MOGADISHU, March 31 (Reuters) - Artillery fire rocked Mogadishu on Saturday as Ethiopian and Somali troops launched a third day of a major offensive against Islamist insurgents and clan militiamen that has killed scores of civilians.

Residents said a barrage of shells crashed into several neighbourhoods before dawn, flattening homes and triggering panic. The International Committee of the Red Cross says the fighting is the capital's worst for more than 15 years.
