WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - The White House on Thursday expressed confidence in World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, who is facing a board review over the promotion and pay increase for his girlfriend and staffer, Shaha Riza.

"Of course President Wolfowitz has our full confidence," White House spokesman Tony Fratto told Reuters. "In dealing with this issue, he has taken full responsibility and is working with the executive board to resolve it," he added.

U.S. President George W. Bush nominated Wolfowitz, a former U.S. deputy defense secretary, for the job in 2005.
