WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Monday there was no doubt terrorists were operating in safe havens in the tribal regions of Pakistan and the United States wanted to make sure Islamabad was a strong ally in fighting that threat.

Obama said the new Pakistani government cared deeply about getting control of that situation, and "we have to make sure that Pakistan is a stalwart ally with us in battling this terrorist threat." (Reporting by Tabassum Zakaria; Editing by Peter Cooney)
