WASHINGTON, Dec 6 (Reuters) - The United States must not make an open-ended commitment to keep a large U.S. force in Iraq, a high-level commission recommended on Wednesday.

The Iraq Study group also said the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki needed to show its own people as well as the United States and the rest of the world that "it deserves continued support."

"The United States must not make an open-ended commitment to keep large numbers of American troops deployed in Iraq," the report said.
