WASHINGTON, June 25 (Reuters) - Peru has accepted a proposal from the Bush administration and the U.S. Congress for new rules to strengthen environmental and labor protections in a U.S.-Peruvian trade deal, a trade official said on Monday.

The Bush administration, which wants to see bilateral trade agreements with South Korea, Peru, Colombia and Panama approved by Congress, has been working with lawmakers to draft a host of proposed changes to strengthen the deal's chances of approval.

Peru has accepted those changes, said Steve Norton, a spokesman for U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab.
