WASHINGTON, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Israel has a right to defend itself against Hamas rocket attacks but must avoid civilian casualties, the White House said on Friday "Israel has a right to defend itself from these rocket attacks," White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe told reporters.
