Feb 24 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 2000 GMT on Sunday.

* BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier was killed by small arms fire in southern Baghdad, the military said. A roadside bomb killed another soldier in northern Baghdad, the military added.

ISKANDARIYA - A suicide bomber targeting a group of pilgrims heading to one of Shi'ite Islam's holiest festivals killed 40 people and wounded 60 in Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces killed three suspected al Qaeda gunmen and detained 25 others on Saturday and Sunday during operations in central and northern Iraq, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Three civilians, including a woman, were killed and 45 others wounded after pilgrims heading to the Shi'ite festival were struck by a roadside bomb and small arms fire in the Doura district of southern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Three bodies were found in different districts across Baghdad on Saturday, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a U.S. patrol wounded five people in the Hurriya district, northwestern Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - One child was killed in crossfire between U.S. forces and suspected al Qaeda gunmen on Saturday in eastern Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, said Brigadier-General Khalid Abdul-Sattar, an Iraqi military spokesman.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed one man and wounded another in a drive-by shooting on Saturday in eastern Mosul, Brigadier-General Abdul-Sattar said.

HAWIJA - One civilian was killed and nine members of a U.S.- backed neighbourhood police unit were wounded when a car bomb aimed at their patrol exploded in Hawija, 70 km (43 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces killed a suspected al Qaeda militant and detained four others on Saturday and Sunday during operations in central Iraq, the U.S. military said.
