An Ethnic Tamil Malaysian protester uses a shoe to beat an effigy of India's ruling Congress party President Sonia Gandhi, during a demonstration outside the Sri Lankan embassy in Kuala Lumpur May 15, 2009. Sri Lankan troops advanced on the Tamil Tigers on Friday and more civilians fled the shrinking war zone, signalling a military finish to Asia's longest modern war despite strong diplomatic pressure for a negotiated end. The Tigers, on U.S., EU, Canadian and Indian terrorist lists, have vowed no surrender in their fight for a separate nation for Sri Lanka's Tamils, which began in the 1970s and erupted into full-scale civil war in 1983.
