A worker at a recycling centre stands atop piles of recyclable materials on the outskirts of Beijing August 4, 2009. China's government is very keen to see its emissions of greenhouse gasses peak, but lifting tens of millions out of poverty must remain its first focus, the country's climate change ambassador said on Wednesday. China still has around 150 million people living in poverty, if it uses the United Nations benchmark of those living on US$2 a day or less, however China sets its domestic benchmark for absolute poverty slightly lower.
