Ilona Hauber, molecular biologist of Heinrich Pette Institute for Experimental Virology and Immunology at the University of Hamburg, poses as she cultures human cells under secure conditions, July 2, 2007. A team of scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden and the Heinrich Pette Institute in Hamburg created a custom enzyme 'Tre' that removes the HIV virus from the infected cells by recognising and then recombining the structure of the virus’s DNA.
