A woman turns away from the fumes as a Secretary of State for Public Health and Welfare (SESPAS) vehicle is used to fumigate a street to control dengue in a neighborhood in Santo Domingo November 26, 2009. At least 40 residents died of dengue in the Dominican Republic in 2009, according to local media. Dengue, an acute viral disease transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, is characterized by high fever, severe headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, skin rashes and muscle pain.
