Brazilian wildcat gold miner Jose Nelson Rodrigues, 51, rests in the miners' camp to overcome a bout of malaria, as several thousand other miners in search of gold have set up camp in Novo Aripuana, 80 km (50 miles) from the town of Apui in Amazonas state, February 4, 2007. Since the discovery of the gold deposits became public in late December, peasants, politicians and even priests have picked up shovels and axes to dig into the heavy clay soil and panned the earth at a nearby branch of the Juma river.
