Riot police separate Crimean Tatar protesters from representatives of a company planning to build an apartment complex during clashes in Simferopol in Crimea, 850 km (528 miles) south of Ukraine's capital Kiev November 1, 2007. Tatars, deported by Soviet dictator Josef Stalin but allowed by post-Soviet Ukraine to return to Crimea, want local authorities to give them the land to build their own housing.
