Riot police patrol the streets during a transport strike in Abobo, Abidjan, July 17, 2008. The transport strike in Ivory Coast's commercial capital this week slightly reduced volumes of cocoa arriving at the port but the impact has been limited by a quiet end of season, exporters said on Thursday. Several unions called a strike this week in Abidjan to protest against the high cost of living and transport, exacerbated by mounting petrol and diesel prices which rose by 29 and 44 percent respectively earlier this month.
