Type:permanent
Salary:TBA (000's USD)
Description:PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
Kabul Based
Salary £34k plus benefits

Afghanaid has been in Afghanistan since 1983. It specializes in working with village communities to improve livelihoods and increase incomes in some of the most disadvantaged provinces in the country.

The programme includes work in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary outreach, small-scale engineering, micro-finance and women’s and children’s rights. We also work closely with the Afghan government as a facilitating partner for its National Solidarity Programme, enabling rural women and men to elect their village councils and assisting them in meeting their development priorities.

We are seeking an experienced development professional with proven competencies to lead our programme department in a demanding humanitarian, political and security context. You will have diverse and wide ranging management skills, relevant programme and technical expertise and a track record for innovation, influencing and advocacy at a senior level. You will bring experience and knowledge of working in Afghanistan or a similar insecure environment. You will be expected to provide demonstrable evidence of promoting gender equality and enabling local civil society to develop itself as an active partner in the development process. The successful candidate will travel regularly to project sites and will lead a team of over 200 largely Afghan staff working in four provinces – Badakhshan, Samangan, Ghor and Nuristan.

This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of one of the world’s poorest countries, marred by protracted armed conflict and illicit poppy cultivation, at a time when new relationships are being forged with the Afghan government, international donors and others.

If you have the qualities we are looking for, we would like to hear from you. For more information download an application pack from www.afghanaid.org.uk For any other queries, contact Karen Liddington on Karen.liddington@tiscali.co.uk.
