| Description: | Oxfam International (OI) is a confederation of 13 organisations working together with over 3,000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. The OI Secretariat is based in Oxford, UK with advocacy offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels and Geneva.
This is a key role in supporting the confederation’s 13 affiliates to ensure the maximum impact of Oxfam International’s humanitarian responses. You will do this by working with affiliates to implement agreed coordination mechanisms in an efficient and effective manner, particularly in times of humanitarian response.
The Emergency Officer will work closely with the Humanitarian Director to support Oxfam’s humanitarian leads in the performance of their roles in line with OI standards. You will support and facilitate the dynamics across OI Humanitarian Country Teams and affiliates through their humanitarian leads, all the while monitoring and supporting the implementation of the Humanitarian Dossier during times of crisis. You will be responsible for the implementation, interpretation and, in times of crisis, the updating of the Contingency Plan. Supporting the monitoring of responses and assisting in linking implementation to the monitoring and evaluation phase, you will monitor humanitarian crises around the world, producing regular humanitarian updates to inform future OI humanitarian responses and advise on the use of humanitarian intranet sites during times of crisis.
You will have extensive field and HQ experience of humanitarian work and international humanitarian systems as well a real desire to work for justice against poverty and suffering. You will be a team player with excellent organisational skills, a good communicator with a patient yet persistent approach and have good computer skills. You must be prepared to travel to risky areas at short notice for up to 16 weeks a year and have the natural sensitivity to be able to work effectively at times of great human stress.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential as is a working knowledge of French and Spanish – other languages would also be desirable.
