Based in Khartoum, North Sudan
To start from 10th May 2010 Tearfund has been working in Northern Sudan through its Disaster management Team since 2004 and an exciting opportunity exists for an experienced senior manager and leader to head our operational programme in Darfur. We are looking for proven experience of relief work, strategic programme management and project design, in order to effectively lead the development, and implementation of the programme in accordance with Tearfund’s approach to good practice, policy and strategy. You will have responsibility for developing and outworking the strategy for Tearfund’s direct operational work in Northern Sudan, and leading a senior management team responsible for project implementation, logistics, finance and human resources. Strong experience is required in managing programme budgets, developing donor relations, providing resources and support to staff with donor proposal development and reporting, and compliance to corporate and donor systems. You will also be responsible for representing Tearfund and liasing and advocating with Government departments, UN bodies, INGOs and local Partners. The post requires frequent travel to field sites. Applicants will be educated to degree level and must have substantive up-to-date working knowledge of relief environments. Proven experience in security management is essential. You will be an excellent leader with strong organisational skills, people management, negotiation and representation skills. Excellent written and spoken English is essential. All posts involve potential contact with children and the recruitment process will include specific checks related to child protection issues.
