Description:War Child Canada (WCC), a registered Canadian charity based in Toronto, Canada that provides humanitarian assistance to children and youth affected by war. Working with local partners, WCC’s international projects provide development assistance and rehabilitation, helping communities overcome trauma and begin rebuilding their lives. With a strong emphasis on youth engagement, WCC aims to educate and empower children and youth and build awareness and capacity within communities.

WCC’s Ethiopia project, which provides livelihoods and educational support to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, has been implemented in collaboration with local partner organization, People to People, for over three years.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

GENERAL

WCC’s CBC will be based in Addis Ababa. He/she will report to WCC’s Program Manager in Toronto and the Director of International Programs in Toronto. The CBC will work in partnership with WCC’s implementing partner to fulfill the larger management and coordination needs for this 2.5 year project (1 year contract, option for renewal).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with local partner staff and management to identify capacity building needs within their organization and develop a strategy to accomplish.
• Fulfill all narrative and financial reporting requirements, as per donor guidelines, under the direction of the WCC Program Manager in Toronto.
• Assist in the coordination of community capacity building activities (trainings, meetings, sub-project management).
• Provide support to P2P in management and communication systems development as required/requested.
• In cooperation with P2P staff and management, will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the project and completion of all necessary documentation and reporting.
• Proposal writing and WCC budget management under the supervision of the WCC Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Experience working with, and through, local partners. Specific experience in livelihoods, education, gender, training, considered an asset.
• Minimum of 3-5 years experience in project development, implementation, coordination and management.
• Knowledge of the region and an awareness of local culture is essential.
• Capacity building and training experience with an NGO.
• Management skills and experience, including personnel, project and financial management.
• Proficiency in budget development and financial management.
• Experience in managing donor contacts and relationships, delivering on obligations and a good awareness of donor requirements and priorities.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Well-developed analytical and strategic planning skills.
• High level of interpersonal skills; keen awareness of political sensitivities.
• Computer skills: MS Office (esp. Word and Excel) and internet applications.

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

CONTRACT: One year contract, provisional on successful performance review after 3 months, with the possibility for renewal.
