The nature of what we do means we often have to work in situations of conflict. In this role, you’ll creatively develop and deliver advocacy on security, conflict and humanitarian issues to make our voice even more influential.

The role
You’ll apply your expertise to civilian protection issues in situations of conflict, looking for ways to improve the response of national governments and the international community in specific crises, such as those occurring in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. We’ll look to you to strengthen international norms, laws, practices and protection capacity. Your role also involves lobbying high-level decision makers in London and Brussels, preparing comprehensive briefings and materials, and briefing journalists, as well as participating in broadcast interviews. You can also expect to support the development of cutting-edge analysis, and to influence our strategy on humanitarian and security issues.

What we’re looking for
Educated to degree level, you’ll have experience of protection or humanitarian assistance work in at least one conflict-affected country as well as a good grasp of its political, economic and social trends. Strong conceptual and analytical skills are essential and you’ll bring an approach that’s both innovative and strategic. With an awareness of the institutions involved in conflict and natural disaster policy, you know about their agendas – and how to influence them. Your excellent lobbying skills should be backed up by an ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies, and you’ll have experience of advocacy at the highest level. We’ll also be looking for excellent communication and team working skills.

About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. And it’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. At Oxfam we believe that with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. More than 8,000 people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
