During the past 16 years we have safely found, removed and destroyed millions of landmines, small and large bombs, missiles and other tools of armed conflict. By freeing up millions of acres of land we are the precursor to the development and economic growth of conflict-affected countries throughout the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.
Community Liaison (CL) is the medium through which MAG gathers, analyses and disseminates information in order to identify and implement the most effective solutions to the obstacles and dangers caused by remnants of conflict. It enables MAG to better target mine action resources to the areas of greatest need.
As a Community Liaison Manager with MAG you will work within local communities and liaise with a wide range of relevant stakeholders. Your role will be to:
manage the Community Liaison input to project delivery liaise with relevant stakeholders to provide MAG clearance teams with information regarding priority areas for operations enhance national capacity building through the design and delivery of training and coaching to national Community Liaison staff design and deliver Mine Risk Education programmes design and implement outcome and impact assessment programmes You will need to have: good spoken and written English language skills strong participatory learning and facilitation skills experience of working overseas in community and/or educational development activities experience of conducting needs or risk assessments in order to design and implement appropriate interventions experience in the design and delivery of formal or informal training and transfer of skills to others excellent organisational skills with the ability to coordinate activities and projects excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to establish relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds experience of leading, motivating and managing national staff You will also need to be a self-starter with the desire and will to see through changes that can have huge impact on the lives of those affected by mines and UXO. Previous knowledge of mines/UXO is not essential. Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities. You will need to be able to deal with living and working in such a challenging environment. French language skills would be an asset for the posts in Francophone Africa.
